Provisional Values
All the values and stats mentioned in this article aren't final, they are based on the Developer Build to which Super Creators have access to. Usually nothing significant changes, but keep this warning in mind whenever you read update details.
Hatchlings and Stars Update!
This minor update is scheduled to be released next Tuesday, February 18th, but it could be delayed.

Hatchling Run
The first game modes were introduced with the last update, and now we'll be getting the first temporary mode!
Fight Monsters and rescue lost Hatchlings in a team of 3!
This mode introduces PvE (player versus environment) into Squad Busters for the first time. Together with 2 friends or random players, your task will be to rescue as many Hatchlings as you can while you defend their Hutch from angry Monsters.
This event will be active for around a week, and will have a custom shop in which you can exchange points earned for rewards such as Skins and Chests. Although this isn't certain, it might return regularly as a special event.
Hatchling Shop Rewards
Rescued Hatchlings are exchanged for Hatchling points at the end of each battle, and these points are later used as a currency to buy rewards. The available rewards are:
Item | Price | Available |
---|---|---|
Pea Bea | 600 | 1 |
Pepper Colt | 1000 | 1 |
Tomato Trader | 600 | 1 |
100x Gems | 10 | 10 |
Epic Chest | 60 | 5 |
Rare Chest | 50 | 5 |
Common Chest | 40 | 5 |
x4 Multiplier | 60 | 5 |
x3 Multiplier | 50 | 5 |
x2 Multiplier | 40 | 5 |
This first iteration of Hatchling Run can be challenging to complete. It consists on 6 waves of Monsters that keep increasing in strength.

During these Monster waves, your main goal will be to remain alive while protecting the Hutch. The Hutch is located in the center of the map, and has 10,000 HP.
At the moment, there is only one map for the Hatchling Run mode, and it looks like this:
Monster Spawns
Monsters spawn in clusters, in the edges of the map, and move towards the centre to attack the Hutch.
Star Chest Picks
Star Chests are getting a slight rework that gives players more control over their meta progression. In summary, the changes are:
- Star Chests will no longer unlock new troops.
- You can pick from several troops.
- Unlocked at World Journey Level 50.
- Cost reduction for the first openings has been removed.
After you open a chest, instead of getting a random troop you'll now have a few to pick from (from 2 to 4).
Choices | Probability |
---|---|
2 | 40% |
3 | 35% |
4 | 25% |
Note that the all the available choices will be of the same rarity. So for example, a Common Star Chest will only let you pick from Common troops.
Selecting a troop doesn't pick it directly. It shows you a preview of the troop, with basic info and collection information, to easily see how close to an upgrade you are.
Buy Chest Taps
When you complete a battle and earn a Chest, you'll now have the option to buy chest taps with Coins.
Reward Chests have up to 9 taps, depending on your battle placement. This new feature allows you to buy taps you'd be missing for not finishing 1st. The price is set to 500 Coins per tap, and you can only buy all or none.
If you finished the battle in a position that doesn't give a chest, the prompt to buy extra taps will not appear either.
New Skins
This update introduces 12 different skins that will be grouped in 3 different themes:
Forest Theme: Archer, Archer Queen, Goblin and Witch
Veggie Theme: Bea, Colt, Greg and Trader
Easter Theme: Chicken, Colonel Ruffs, Dynamike, Mavis and Poco
April Update Spoilers
In case you missed the most recent video update from the official YT channel, here are the main highlights:
Trust us, April's update is going to shake up the entire game. We're bringing more strategy, better control over your Squad, and improved battle readability.
We're also introducing a new Character Rarity and a meta revamp to make progression more exciting and rewarding overall.
After April, the next update is planned for summer. The feedback we get from April's changes will heavily shape that update. And beyond that, things start to get a little blurry.
Paula and Adrian quickly mention features such as Clans, more Game Modes, new Characters, Worlds, Events, collaborations... the game is still growing and evolving, so hopefully we'll know more over the coming months!
Balance Changes
Troop Balance
This update brings minor adjustments for a few troops.
Nerf Barbarian (Ultimate)
Details
Elite Baby Barbarian has slightly reduced HP to bring it more in line with the power of other Ultimates.
Nerf Baby Elite Barbarian HP: 2,050 ➜ 1,650 (-20%)
Barbarian | Elite Barbarian | Baby Elite Barbarian | |
---|---|---|---|
Health [HP] | 2,150 | 2,150 | 1,650 |
Hit Time [s] | 0.900 | 0.750 | 0.750 |
Hit Speed [hits/s] | 1.11 | 1.33 | 1.33 |
Damage [HP] | 119 | 175 | 175 |
DPS [HP/s] | 132 | 233 | 233 |
This HP reduction only affects the ally Baby Elite Barbarian that spawns with Ultimate Barbarian.
Rework Barbarian King (Super Rage)
Details
Super Rage is no longer stronger than normal Rage Spells, but lasts slightly longer.
Nerf Super Rage Damage Buff: +100% ➜ +60% (-40%)
Buff Super Rage Duration: 8 ➜ 10 s (+25%)
Normal Rage | Super Rage (Old) | Super Rage (New) | |
---|---|---|---|
Duration | 6 s | 8 s | 10 s |
Damage | +60% | +100% | +60% |
When a troop or spell gets buffs and nerfs at the same time, we usually label the overall change as a rework. Aside from this technicality, it's worth noting that the total damage bonus is reduced by 20%.
Buff Dr. T (Mega Crab)
Details
Dr. T has buffed his Mega Crab's capabilities when Boosted:
- Mega Crab is immune to slowdown and faster when Boosted
- Each Evolution now greatly increases Mega Crab’s Boosted speed
Buff Mega Crab will not slow down due to receiving damage or stepping into tall grass; now it will cut the grass.
Buff Classic Crab Rage:
- Speed buff: +35% ➜ +50% (+11%)
- DPS buff: +51% ➜ +60% (+6%)
Buff Super Crab Rage:
- Speed buff: +35% ➜ +65% (+11%)
- DPS buff: +46% ➜ +68% (+15%)
Buff Ultra Crab Rage:
- Speed buff: +35% ➜ +80% (+11%)
- DPS buff: +53% ➜ +100% (+31%)
In the past, evolving Dr. T would just increase the DPS of the Mega Crab, but all the other stats remained mostly the same. With this change, Dr. T's Super Ability also becomes stronger as he evolves (higher move and attack speed). The buff given by the Baby evolution isn't changing.
Nerf Hog Rider
Details
Turbo boost lasts less time after leaving Grass, to keep Turbo more relevant at higher Evolution levels.
Nerf Grass Boost duration: 2.3 ➜ 1.5 s (-35%)
The ability that is being nerfed is the one Hog Rider has in his Baby evolution. This basically affects how much free boost you get once you step outside of the grass.
Buff Nita
Details
Nita’s basic attack's lack of homing has been fixed, and it now travels farther to connect more often.
Buff Range: 2.5 ➜ 4.0 tiles (+60%)
This new range matches other popular ranged troops such as Colt and Shelly.
Buff Royale King (Classic)
Details
Royale King now summons more Royal Recruits on lower levels, though up to the same cap as previously.
Buff Royal Recruit Spawns: 3-6 ➜ 4-6
Having 1, 2 or 3 (a fusion) Royale Kings in your squad will spawn an extra Royal Recruit whenever you open a chest. If you have a more than 3 (a fusion), each chest will still spawn 6 recruits.
Royale Kings | Spawns (Old) | Spawns (New) |
---|---|---|
1 | 3 | 4 |
2 | 4 | 5 |
3 (1 Fusion) | 5 | 6 |
4 | 6 | 6 |
5 | 6 | 6 |
Buff Witch (Elite Skeletons)
Details
Witch's Elite Skeletons have significantly increased Health and Damage to be more worth their Evolution, and offset their short lifetime.
Buff Elite Skeleton HP: 350 ➜ 600 (+71%)
Skeleton | Elite S. (Old) | Elite S. (New) | |
---|---|---|---|
Health | 225 | 350 | 600 |
Lifetime | 30 s | 30 s | 30 s |
Damage | 8 | 25 | 25 |
Hit Speed | 0.77 | 0.77 | 0.77 |
DPS | 6 | 19 | 19 |
Our developer build does not include any changes to the Damage of Elite Skeleton, so this change may have been missed or discarded.
Spell Balance
Rework Mega Potion
Mega Potions in Showdown no longer spawn on regular intervals, and instead can spawn faster or slower by random chance. This chance increases as Mega Potions platforms get covered in vines.
Mega Potions no longer spawn if a player is standing directly on the spawning platform, to discourage camping.
Mega Potions no longer heal.
There will 2 main stages for Mega Potion drop probabilities:
- High Chance: 67% drop probability
- Low Chance: 20% drop probability
It's unclear what stats have changed for Mega Potion, as everything seems like it was before.
Mega Potion stats
Mega Potions give a fairly strong buff to the troops of your Squad during 9 seconds:
- Move speed: +20%
- Damage: +50%
- Hit Speed: from +29% to +47%, depending on the troop; +42% on average
- Damage protection: -60% of incoming damage
The combination of Damage and Hit Speed buffs give a total DPS increase of around +113%, so more than double.
Mod Balance
Loot Surge
Loot Surge Modifier has been adjusted to have slightly less loot to help with device performance.
The spacings between loot spawns is being increased by 1 tile for all the kinds of spawns.
Details
Due to how area spawns work, the total amount of loot spawned is related inverse to the squared distance between spawns. This means that loot types with spacings of 1 or 2 tiles will be the most affected when these distances are increased to 2 and 3. Given that your squad is limited by linear movement, the reduction on loot you can grab won't be as severe, but still noticeable.
The kinds of loot spawns change throughout the battle, and we can distinguish 6 main types of spawns.
Type 1:
- Wave 1: 3:55 to 3:40
Type | Chance | Spacing (Old) | Spacing (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Coin | 100% | 1 | 2 | -75% |
Type 2:
- Wave 2: 3:30 to 3:15
Type | Chance | Spacing (Old) | Spacing (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Turbo | 36% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Spell | 40% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Golden Boot | 2% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Key | 2% | 4 | 4 | 0% |
Piñata Stick | 20% | 2 | 2 | 0% |
Type 3:
- Wave 3: 3:00 to 2:45
- Wave 4: 2:30 to 2:15
- Wave 5: 2:00 to 1:45
- Wave 6: 1:30 to 1:30
Type | Chance | Spacing (Old) | Spacing (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Coin | 28% | 1 | 2 | -75% |
Turbo | 14% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Spell | 20% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Gem | 12% | 1 | 2 | -75% |
GoldenBoot | 2% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
GoldenBomb | 2% | 5 | 6 | -31% |
Key | 2% | 4 | 4 | 0% |
Piñata Stick | 20% | 2 | 2 | 0% |
Type 4:
- Wave 7: 1:00 to 0:45
Type | Chance | Spacing (Old) | Spacing (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Gem | 1% | 1 | 2 | -75% |
Piñata Stick | 99% | 2 | 2 | 0% |
Type 5:
- Wave 8: 0:40 to 0:30
Type | Chance | Spacing (Old) | Spacing (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|---|
Gem | 50% | 1 | 2 | -75% |
Spell | 48% | 2 | 3 | -56% |
Golden Bomb | 3% | 5 | 6 | -31% |
Note that several of these categories include Piñata Sticks, but this loot type only can appear while the event is active. When this type is removed, the probability of the other types is increased proportionally.

Showdown Extra Gems
Completing a Showdown battle will give players more gems for their Gem Pass progress:
Placement Rewards
After the battle ends, the rewards you get based on placement are:
Placement | Gems (Old) | Gems (New) | Change |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 200 | 500 | +150% |
2nd | 170 | 400 | +135% |
3rd | 150 | 300 | +100% |
4th | 130 | 200 | +54% |
5th | 100 | 100 | - |
This means that although you won't collect Gems during the battle, you'll still receive progress for the Gem Pass.
Showdown Wins
After the update, finishing #3 in Showdown will also count as a Win (it used to only be #1-2). This means it should be easier to complete your Daily Win Rewards by playing this mode.
Less Maxed Troops
The probability of getting maxed troops from chests was 17%, and this update is reducing it even more to 5%.
Slower Vine Growth
Vines will grow slower at the beginning of battles.
Matchmaking
- Players can sometimes get matchmade into Worlds that they haven’t unlocked yet
- Squad League top-level matchmaking improved
Bug Fixes
- Replays no longer crash due to devices running out of memory
- Duo battle rankings order fixed
- In Timeout Modifier, players don't keep 200 gems after being busted
